its odd that the pro-fracking comments focus solely on how the anti-frack comments are "unsupported by fact" when fracking companies themselves refuse to release information about their own processes and fracking research is INADEQUATE!
Not sure why you publish the nonsense of Larry Miller. First of all, the gas is not being exported to China. It is used in the United States, and the plentiful supply is giving me and millions of others lower heating bills in the past few years.
He repeats more nonsense about pollution and diminishing resources. There's plenty of gas in the Barnett. And I live in Shale Country and don't see this alleged damage. I just see people working...
Fracking use toxic chemicals to get remainders of gas and permanetly contaminates the water used. I LIVE IN SHALE COUNTRY AND CAN SEE THE DAMAGE! Most of the gas is exported to China! The Barnett shale play, promised to last decades, is already tapping out after a few years. Royalties gone, but high property taxes stay! Suckers!!!!!!!!!
I just read Sherlock Holmes's long missive about leasing. Here is the most ridiculous comment I have read recently: "Natural gas my be the cleanest burning fossil fuel, but getting it causes more damage to the environment than coal and oil combined". What was he thinking? You get coal by strip mining or cutting off mountain tops. You get oil exactly like you get natural gas....by drilling a well....except that natural gas wells flow so the wellhead is much less invasive to the surface than an oil well which requires 210 BBL tanks and pump jacks...even then you are talking about less than 2 acres for a surface location. Can't believe these people can just say this stuff and believe it as fact. Good for him that he didn't lease his minerals while his neighbors did for a good payday. And his comment about land that is drilled upon becoming "industrial sites" so that "many end up with a property they can no longer inhabit, and can't even sell". Another unbelievable comment that is not supported by the facts.
Nice to see America at work again reminds me of my younger years everyone working everyone happy, all hustle and bustle,I love that America
I like where you guys are headed its about time people start standing up for us besides us. I've been on drilling rigs for five years and love it. The oilfield has given my family a good life. I had my first kid when I was 17 so I did what I could to make ends meet then I got on a rig and it opened up a new way of life for me and my family. Since being in the oilfield I have three beautiful kids a lovely wife Im buying a house both my cars are paid for and more toys then I have time to play with. not to minion I only work 6 months a year.
it is good to know, we hav abandant of natural gas--------
Thank-you!!!
People are working in williston ND. life is good. I'm going on the fourth year of the work explosion. without this gas and oil coming out of North Dakota. The job market would be Horrid. God bless our natural resources.
My father-in-law lives in Hughesville, PA and has test wells on his farm. If we can drill for natural gas we also can drill for oil. We should keep all our resources for our country and citizens. And bring back the steel industry, furniture, automotive, and textiles. Put America back to work and get rid of China, Mexico, India. PM, Redding, CA
I just hope PA stays beautiful and clean. Otherwise, let's hope this helps the whole State. Maybe we can fix the teachers' pension problem since Harrisburg and so many districts have been deferring their share of the financial burden for decades. Maybe we can fix our roads and bridges too. Healthcare relief? Well, let's at least let's all pray for wisdom for our leaders. This could make or break PA for centuries to come.
Shalecountry.com is an excellent series. I hope you have many more regarding the shale gas industry.
Gas might be good in the short term, but we gotta think long term if we're going to be energy independent and create permanent jobs. It's time to stop digging for energy and time to start growing it. Wood gas and biomass creates good jobs in forestry, and bio-gas and wind energy brings money to hard-working farm economies.
noticed your interesting add usa today, as I was loading frac sand at U.S Silica, Ottawa, Ill. Glad to see your website is informing the public about this new technology and it's impact on our communities.
I don't know what state -- other than denial -- that Bill the alleged engineer is from. First, this site is about shale GAS, not oil. Second, I hope he sends a post explaining where he's moving to.
Colorado just passed a progressive change in our energy supply, replacing filthy coal that is polluting our skies with natural gas. If this move to improve our environment disturbs Bill so much, I guess he should move to West Virginia or some other state where their power comes from burning coal. Additionally, that coal is comes from cutting off the tops of the mountains. Not all energy sources are the same, and gas produces much less carbon than coal.
If it were not not for the Haynesville and Narcellus shale my son and many of his friends would not be employed today. This is the biggest energy find in America and we need to respect it for what it is, clean abundant energy.
You won't find the shale on maps of NY either, but ask anyone about Radon gas... and a map emerges. Where ever there is a radioactive Radon gas problem, there is Marcellus shale which contains the radioactive element Radium that gives off the gas.
Removing the natural gas from the shale in NY also releases Radon gas (a carcinogen) and brings the element Radium to the surface. This topic never get any attention, and it should. The only mention of the radiation problem in NY is in the appendix of the DEIS.
"Why?" you may ask, I really don't know. I speculate it is because the levels found so far in test wells drilled in the Marcellus in the Southern Tier of NY all had levels far above the EPA standard for safe release of both Radon gas and Radium 226. Radium 226 has a 1,601 year half life and decays to Radon gas. To contain this radiation and to make it safe to work around would require procedure that are used with nuclear waste; all humans must be monitored for exposure and all exposed equipment would require special disposal and handling. This is all do able but this is an expense that would make extraction much more expensive to pursue. This doesn't even consider the liability that the landowners incur if remediation is required.
While I am not against drilling, I am against the rush to drill with no regulation. Believe me, the speculators and landmen are out for a quick profit and the less landowners know, the more profit for them. Learn before you sign any contract. Also consider joining a landowners association to help you not get ripped off. If it gets done, lets do it right the first time and not rush into this.
There are deposits outside Kingman AZ., when heading east toward the Gran Canyon. Why is the focus on the N. East U.S.? The So. West U.S. could certainly use some of the natural gas economy as well.
As a business owner, engineer etc, I find your website....less than interesting. As a citizen I find it deplorable. To deny the long-term effects of Shale oil is not fair for your children. These consequences, that you have all but ignored on your website will be your demise. God knows you are being bad, no matter how much BS you throw into your website. I am a builder of EV Pickup trucks. Solar, wind, hydro, wood, pedal power, whatever...... Don't you get it? We must stop taking carbon from the earth and putting it into the air!!!!!!!!!! Whoever reads this, please consider changing your career path. You'll sleep better at night.

I live in Conneaut , Ohio and our town borders Pa. and Lake Erie. We have been getting some interest in town from a drilling company looking at city property. We are in the west end of this Marcellus site and could be in the gas business . I hope so.
